Cheat Sheet - Ferguson Chaos Is Only Just Beginning

Read This, Skip That ....

August 14, 2014
NOT OVER
The streets of the St. Louis suburb were strewn with tear gas canisters and rubber bullet casings again last night as protesters pledged to keep demonstrating against the killing of teenager Michael Brown. Justin Glawe reports from the chaotic scene in Ferguson.
WAR ZONE
The streets of Ferguson resemble a war-torn district of Iraq. Phillip Carter, a U.S. military veteran, says the police's tactics will only make matters worse.
FACE THE NATION

"We continue to make progress" in Iraq, President Obama said in a speech to the nation Thursday, but "the situation remains dire for Iraqis subject to ISIS terror." He promised humanitarian aid wherever possible and said the U.S. "will continue airstrikes" to protect U.S. assets. Shifting gears, the president addressed the crisis in Ferguson, Missouri, declaring, "Many Americans have been deeply disturbed" about the killing of unarmed black teenager Michael Brown by a Ferguson cop. Obama said he received an update from Attorney General Eric Holder, and has tasked the Department of Justice and FBI with investigating the case. At the same time, Obama decried both protester violence against police, and the use of excessive force by police against protesters and journalists.

Chilling
After Patrick Sawyer's sister died of the virus, Liberia's Ministry of Health instructed him not to travel. But he was allowed to fly to Lagos. Now he's dead—and 10 more are infected.
CONTAGION

Hundreds of hard-line extremists in the world's largest Muslim-majority country have begun to openly pledge allegiance to ISIS—and thousands more have done so on social media. The trend has led Indonesia's government to crack down, banning the group and now blocking websites that display the group's content. Indonesia is also worried about "alumni" jihadi, or those who come back from conflicts. "We have to be prepared, when the issue of ISIS in the Middle East is over and then they come back into Indonesia," a top counterterrorism official said Wednesday.
