COMRADES
It may come as an unwelcome surprise to conservatives, but America's military has one of the only working models of collective living and social welfare the country has ever known, writes Jacob Siegel.
DON'T POP
Popping an ibuprofen after a workout or for a headache seems safe enough, right? Recent research shows the drug could be contributing to leaky gut syndrome and celiac disease. Valerie Vande Panne writes about the hidden dangers of a household drug.
U-S-A, U-S-A!

Meb Keflezighi became the first American to win the Boston Marathon since 1983, with a time of 2:08:37 on Monday. Keflezighi, 38, is an immigrant from Eritrea—his family settled in San Diego after fleeing the war-torn country in the 1980s. In 2009, Keflezighi also became the first American to win the New York City Marathon since 1982. Rita Jeptoo of Kenya won the women's race in 2:18:57, which marked a course record. Last year's Boston Marathon was marred by twin bomb explosions, which killed three and injured hundreds.

MIRACULOUS

After a fight with his parents, a 16-year-old boy went to Mineta San Jose International Airport and hid in the wheel well of Hawaiian Airlines Flight 45, surviving the cold temperatures and lack of oxygen at 38,000 feet to make it to Maui. The boy was reportedly unconscious for most of the 5 1/2-hour flight. The FBI, along with the Transportation Security Administration, is investigating how the teen made it past security and onto the tarmac. It's not only baffling that he made it onto the plane, but that he lived. "It's amazing he survived that," an FBI spokesman said.

SAY WHAT?

A majority of Americans seriously question or doubt that the universe was created 13.8 billion years ago in a "big bang." An Associated Press/GfK poll found that 51 percent of those surveyed questioned the famous theory explaining the origin of the universe. Another concept Americans tend to question: global warming. About four in 10 polled said they are not too confident or outright disbelieve that the Earth is warming as a result of human activity. Around the same percentage also questioned that life on Earth evolved through a process of natural selection. While disheartening to see how many Americans seriously doubt scientific concepts, more than 95 percent do believe smoking causes cancer.
