SCANDAL

While General Allen is reportedly reconsidering his NATO nomination, a bit player in the scandal is still being pursued by TV anchors and people offering cash. She tells The Daily Beast's Howard Kurtz why she's overwhelmed.

BLADE RUNNER

South African sprinter Oscar Pistorius was arrested Thursday after a woman was found shot to death in his home in Pretoria. Pistorius, 26, a double-amputee Olympic sprinter known as Blade Runner, was taken into custody early Thursday after police responded to a call about a shooting at his home. According the the Associated Press, the woman he killed was 30-year-old Reeva Steenkamp, a self-described "cover girl for FHM Models." South African media reported that Steenkamp was Pistorius's girlfriend and that he allegedly shot her after mistaking her for a burglar, an allegation that has not been confirmed. Officials apparently found a 9mm in Pistorius's home. He is expected to appear in court later Thursday. The South African Paralympian—a fan favorite—took home two gold medals and a silver at the 2012 London Olympics.

TENSION

There have been no new radioactive isotopes released from North Korea's underground nuclear test, South Korean experts said Thursday. Finding isotopes can help determine what type of nuclear device was used, but a well-contained test could yield no isotopes. North Korea claimed Tuesday to have carried out an underground nuclear test, and seismic activity trigged by the test has been detected by several nations. The United Nations Security Council has condemned the test, and Australia blocked a visit by North Korea diplomats over it.

MILE-HIGH MATCH

The skies are about to become more united. US Airways and AMR, the parent company for American Airlines, have reportedly agreed to a $11 billion merger that will make the combined carrier the largest airline in the world. The new company will be called American Airlines, but will be headed by Doug Parker, the CEO of US Airways. In a statement to the media Thursday, Parker conveyed his hope for the future of the company. "The combined airline will have the scale, breadth, and capabilities to compete more effectively and profitably in the global marketplace," he said. The merger gives 72 percent of ownership to AMR creditors, and US Airways shareholders will have the rest.
