CHEAT SHEET
MUST READS FROM ALL OVER

EXCLUSIVE
1. The Wrath of Mahmoud Abbas

Fed up with stalled peace talks, the Palestinian leader vents about how
President Obama betrayed him before a critical United Nations vote. "We
both went up the tree. After that, he came down with a ladder and he
removed the ladder and said to me, jump," Abbas tells Dan Ephron in an
exclusive interview in this week's Newsweek - an account the White House
denies as "not accurate." Plus, Abbas on the future of peace talks,
Washington's "impolite" intervention in Egypt, and more.

WIKILEAKS
2. Classifed Gitmo Files Leaked

WikiLeaks has dumped another trove of classified military documents,
this time revealing tantalizing new details about the United States'
extra-legal military prison camp at Guantánamo Bay. The documents give
the most thorough picture yet of how the prison took shape, how its
inhabitants were captured, and how many of them actually posed a threat
to the U.S. They also reveal shocking treatment: Mohammed Qahtani, a
Saudi believed to have been an intended participant in the September 11
attacks, was leashed like a dog, sexually humiliated, and forced to
urinate on himself. An Al Jazeera cameraman was held for six years for
questioning about the television network's supposed training program.
The documents also shed new light on the 172 men still locked up in the
prison - almost all of whom are classified "high risk," though the files
also say a third of the 600 detainees already released also once had
that classification. The big picture is of an institution stuck in the
past: No new prisoners have arrived at Guantánamo since 2007, and many
have been there for several years, yet interrogators continue to
question them about crimes increasingly distant in time. One detainee
was captured in 2002, but was still being questioned about the
wherabouts of Taliban chief Mullah Muhammad Omar six years later.

AFGHANISTAN
3. Taliban Stages Huge Prison Break

More than 450 prisoners have escaped from the main prison in Kandahar
City after Taliban militants dug a tunnel into the compound. The Taliban
dug the 1,000-foot long tunnel over five months. The majority of the
escapees are Taliban insurgents, including 100 commanders. It's not even
the biggest jailbreak in the 1,200-inmate prison's history: A Taliban
attack in 2008 freed 900 prisoners.

UPDATES
4. Giffords Cleared to Attend Shuttle Launch

Astronaut Mark Kelly says his wife, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, has been
cleared to attend the shuttle launch of the Endeavor at Cape Canaveral
Friday - her first trip since moving to Houston for rehabilitation. The
Arizona Republic, meanwhile, published Sunday the most comprehensive
look yet at Giffords' current condition: She speaks mostly in short, one
or two-word declarations, like "love you," "awesome," or even "get out"
at the end of a long day; has learned to write with her left hand; and
can stand on her own and walk a little.

MIDDLE EAST
5. Syrian Army, Snipers Open Fire

At least five people were killed when the Syrian army, backed by armor
and snipers, opened fire on the southern city of Daraa and the Damascus
suburb of Douma. The crackdown is particularly troubling because there
were no active demonstrations in either location; the army is said to
have conducted house-to-house searches and made many arrests. More than
350 people have died since March 15.
