Coca-Cola : the Popular Beverage Around the World

It started in 1886, when John Pemberton, a chemist from Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A., succeeded in making a special kind of liquid mixture. After that, a new kind of beverage began to spread in the United States, and later on, all over the world. It took some years of experiments before Pemberton found the right recipe for this thick, dark-brown mixture which become a refreshing, non-alcoholic beverage after it is added to soda water. He gave this new drink the name coca-cola.

Millions of bottles of coca-cola are now produced and consumed every day in more than one hundred countries. This drink is so popular today that perhaps only a few people in the western hemisphere or even around the world have never tasted coca-cola.
