BP Oil Spill Rated Worse Than Katrina; Most Favor Pursuit of Criminal Charges: Poll

While it is easy to bash the government, what we're seeing is a real, demonstrable loss of faith in the ability of government to competently handle the important matters.

We in Louisiana thought nothing could top Katrina in terms of the impact on our region. Wow - were we ever wrong. And the fact that the federal response has been slow, inept, and in many ways, simple seemed to follow BP's direction, is mystifying and saddening. What we see is the absence of national leadership is the emergence of local leaders - like Gov. Jindal, Mitch Landrieu, and the Parish Presidents.

Unfortunately though, when you break the entire ocean and the ecosystem in it, this is a problem way beyond any one person or one region's ability to manage and to rebound - we will need the help of the whole country and the world for years to come to recover from this. And in many ways, we'll likely never get back to the way things were - that has been made impossible by BP's poor management decisions along the way leading-up to the disaster!
