Mitt Romney told donors Friday morning that he will not run for president in 2016. That's contrary to an earlier report published in The Daily Beast, which relied on multiple sources close to Romney indicating that the former Massachusetts governor was about to launch a third campaign for the White House. "After putting considerable thought into making another run for president, I've decided it is best to give other leaders in the party the opportunity to become our next nominee," Romney said, according to prepared remarks delivered on the call.

U.S. economic growth cooled off somewhat in the fourth quarter of last year, as GDP expanded 2.5 percent compared to the expected 3 percent for 2014. However, thanks to strong 5 percent growth in the third quarter, the U.S. GDP grew at a 2.6 percent annual rate for 2014, the best year since 2010. Another positive sign: Consumer spending grew in the fourth quarter at the fastest pace since 2006.
