Cheat Sheet - Joe Biden: ‘I’ll Kill Your Son’

Read This, Skip That ....

December 12, 2014
SAY WHAT?!

In a speech Wednesday to a women's rights charity, the vice president recalled how he chased down a bully and "smashed his head." Olivia Nuzzi reports on how Biden said he then threatened to kill him, all in the name of protecting the honor of his sister Valerie.

LUCRE

The CIA paid torture teachers James Mitchell and Bruce Jesser more than $80 million. Michael Daly reports how the two have bought two sprawling luxury homes, while their barbarity has cost the U.S. far more.

AFTERLIFE

All dogs do go to heaven, according Pope Francis. During a recent appearance in St. Peter's Square, the pope comforted a boy mourning the death of his dog and said, "One day, we will see our animals again in the eternity of Christ. Paradise is open to all of God's creatures." The pontiff, who took his papal name from St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals, sparks new debate over whether animals have a place in the afterlife. Francis's predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI, has previously said animals are "not called to the eternal life," but it remains unclear what Francis meant by his remarks.

BITTER PILL

Despite promises of an epic populist stand, Democrats caved on Thursday night, splitting over provisions in the spending bill to weaken Wall Street reforms. Ben Jacobs reports that the chaos in the debate over this spending bill means a much bigger fight is coming.

SERIOUSLY?

The editor in chief of a major English-language newspaper in Indonesia has been declared a suspect in a blasphemy case by Indonesian police. The accusation is due to a cartoon published by the paper that mocks ISIS. The cartoon from July shows ISIS about to kill prisoners while a black flag is being raised that has the phrases "La ilaha Illallah," meaning "there is none worthy of worship except Allah," and "Allah, Mohamed and Apostle" on a pirate skull. If charged and found guilty, the editor would face five years in prison. The issue was reported to police by a Muslim group called Jakarta Preachers' Corp.
