OPT-OUT

Monday's Supreme Court ruling granting Hobby Lobby a religious exemption from the Affordable Care Act's contraception mandate has opened the floodgates for dozens of other companies. Abby Haglage reports that 82 other employers, including the University of Notre Dame, were lying in wait for the decision.

LOOK TO THE SKY

Russia may not yet have boots on the ground in Iraq, but it's got them in the sky. Josh Rogin reports that Vladimir Putin has already gifted fighter jets and pilots to Baghdad to fight ISIS. It's meant to show how decisive Moscow can be while Washington dithers on sending military aid to its ally.

PRIDE

On Monday, President Obama announced that his office is working on an executive order to protect federal employees from gender identity-based discrimination. Lesbian and gay federal employees are already protected from workplace discrimination, but the Obama administration is planning to expand those protections to transgendered individuals. While Obama already announced in June an executive order prohibiting federal contractors from LGBT discrimination, the new directive would specifically ban firing or refusing to hire someone based on their gender identity. Currently, only 18 of the 50 states have laws on the books banning LGBT employee discrimination, and an additional three have protections for just lesbian and gay employees.

SACREBLEU

First there was Francois Hollande and his secret girlfriend, and now his predecessor is embroiled in his own scandal. Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy was taken into police custody for questioning into a corruption investigation. Detectives are investigating whether Sarkozy abused his power to obtain information regarding legal cases against him by rewarding government officials. Authorities are trying to specifically determine whether Sarkozy appointed a magistrate to a top job in Monaco in exchange for tipping him off as to whether he would face corruption allegations in court.

BACK AGAIN, AGAIN

We can't keep up with Community's cancellations and resurrections. The cult comedy was picked up for a sixth season by Yahoo on Monday, after being canceled by NBC in March. Community will air 13 new episodes on a free video platform called Yahoo Screen this fall. "I look forward to bringing our beloved NBC sitcom to a larger audience by moving it online. I vow to dominate our new competition," creator Dan Harmon said. "Rest easy, Big Bang Theory. Look out, Bang Bus!"
