STOP IT

After his landslide win, the N.J. governor's being called the next Dubya. But Christie lacks Bush's connection with the base—and the demographics have shifted dramatically since 2000. By The Daily Beast's Peter Beinart.

BACK OFF

Talking to a crowd of 150 volunteers, President Obama promised the administration will fix the problems with healthcare reform, telling the audience, "We're on the right side of history." While he conveyed his disappointments, he also condemned states like Texas, which refused the Medicaid expansion, for hurting the overall process by leaving more people uninsured. On Wednesday, the president also met with vulnerable Democratic senators to listen to their dissatisfaction and reassure them.

DRUGGED

Relax! The home-brewed Russian drug isn't invading America. Abby Haglage on how the media got duped into mistaking an old existing epidemic for a new outbreak.

RAMPANT

Sexual assault in the armed forces increased by nearly 50 percent in the past fiscal year. Between October 2012 and June of 2013, 3,553 sexual assaults were reported to the Defense Department. The report classifies sexual assault as rape, sodomy, and unwanted sexual contact—but not sexual harassment. Military officials say that the higher numbers reflect a changing culture in the military where victims feel safer coming forward. The report is likely to provide momentum for provisions in an upcoming defense bill aiming to confront the problem.

ANGRY

Sorry Eric Holder, they're just not that in to you. In an interview with the Gainesville Sun, Republican Rep. Ted Yohoh said that he and House allies will ask the speaker to impeach the attorney general by the end of the year. Yohoh wants him removed in large part because of the Fast and Furious operation, which left agents' firearms from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives with Mexican drug cartels. The House has only impeached one Cabinet member before—Secretary of War William Belknap in 1876 because of corruption.
