TOUR DE FORCE

After a pause to rest and recharge—apparently she recharges swiftly—Hillary Clinton reemerged to a rapturous welcome at the Vital Voices Global Leadership Awards last night, to be followed on Friday by a keynote speech at the Women in the World Summit sponsored by Newsweek and The Daily Beast. Bob Shrum on why Clinton is still unstoppable if she decides to run in 2016—despite what right-wing pundits want you to believe.

IT'S OFFICIAL

After 22 years hosting 'The Tonight Show' on NBC, Jay Leno announced today that he will step down next spring and hand over the reins to Jimmy Fallon. But of course we've known this for a couple weeks. Marlow Stern on NBC's inept handling of the succession drama.

Facebook is gearing up for a big Android announcement Thursday, and it just might be the introduction of a Facebook phone. Maybe. Tech blogs are abuzz with speculation that there is a new mobile device in the works with an operating system designed specifically for Facebook, even though the social network has given no real indication that it's interested in such a thing. In fact, CEO Mark Zuckerberg has said exactly the opposite. Facebook is the "most-used application on basically every mobile platform," he pointed out when asked about the possibility of a Facebook phone back in July. Building a whole phone, he said, "really wouldn't make much sense for us to do." Still, Zuck and Android are up to something, so who knows. A nerd can dream.

Out of Bounds

Apparently, shoving, insulting, and throwing balls at players are not acceptable coaching tactics, as Mike Rice learned Monday. The now-ex Rutgers basketball coach was fired Wednesday following the circulation, and subsequent criticism, of a video documenting his violently aggressive behavior during practice. "Dismissal and corrective action were debated in December and I thought it was in the best interest of everyone to rehabilitate, but I was wrong," said the school's athletics director, Tim Pernetti, who initially suspended Rice for three games and fined him $50,000 after first reviewing the tape in November. The president of Rutgers University spoke out Wednesday, calling Rice's actions "deeply offensive," an egregious violation of the university's core values. Next stop for Coach Rice? Anger management.

Is consensual sex between a 16-year-old and a man in his 40s ever really consensual? Not according to the latest lawsuit filed this week against Kevin Clash, the puppeteer formerly known as Elmo. Kevin Kiadii, 25, is the fifth man to sue Clash for sexual abuse, alleging that the ex–Sesame Street star, whom he met through a gay phone chat line in 2004, sent a car service to bring the then-16-year-old to his Manhattan apartment, where he allegedly "gave Kiadii alcohol and groomed him with attention and affection." While the accuser admits that the sex was consensual, the legal age of consent in New York is 17.

When Coaches Get Mad

Rutgers basketball coach Mike Rice was fired Wednesday after ESPN broadcast video of him abusing his players. He took his temper too far—but he's not the first coach to lose his cool.
