The budget committee of the German parliament has come up with its final draft of the 2013 federal budget. New debt is less than expected, but opposition parties accuse the coalition of manipulating the stats.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has reshuffled the nation's top military brass, appointing a new chief of the armed forces. The selection comes three days after Putin replaced the defense minister.

Ex-oil executive is named Anglican leader
A former oil executive has been named as the spiritual leader of some 80 million Anglicans across the world. Justin Welby faces the prospect of a break-up of the church over issues such as female bishops and gay rights.

Chinese, Indian economies to overtake West before long
China and India are expected to become the economic superpowers of the not-too-distant future, the OECD says in a new study. The West will quickly fall behind, and so will Germany despite its strong industrial base.

Spain's Iberia announces massive job cuts
Spanish airline Iberia is bracing for layoffs affecting thousands of workers. The carrier, which is part of the International Airlines Group (IAG), has been logging heavy losses over the past nine months.
