SPIN CYCLE

At a press conference on Wednesday, the president praised his former CIA director and delivered a tongue lashing to Republicans who have ripped Ambassador Susan Rice. Howard Kurtz reports.

COME TOGETHER

Workers in Greece, Spain, and Portugal held synchronized protests on Wednesday against austerity measures, with the demonstration in Madrid in particular taking a violent turn as police charged with billy clubs. Large factories in Spain shut down production, and retail traffic was slow. In Athens, 5,000 people took to the street in a mostly peaceful protest. More demonstrations are scheduled in Madrid and Greece as the day goes on, although analysts warned that the frequent protests have caused the government to tune them out.

AIR STRIKE

Israel takes out a senior Hamas military leader—the man responsible for Gilad Shalit's kidnapping—in the start of a serious operation in Gaza. Dan Ephron reports.

GET READY

Resigning hasn't stopped Congress. Gen. David Petraeus will reportedly still testify before the House and Senate Intelligence Committees this week about the attack in Benghazi that killed the U.S. ambassador to Libya and three others. Petraeus resigned last week as head of the CIA after his extramarital affair with Paula Broadwell was exposed, and since then, the scandal has widened to include Gen. John Allen, the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan, and Tampa socialite Jill Kelley. Acting CIA director Michael J. Morrell has agreed to testify in Petraeus's place, but sources confirmed to Fox News on Wednesday that Petraeus would still be there.

Bipartisan?

Harry Reid probably isn't too broken up over Scott Brown's loss. The Senate Majority Leader dismissed Brown's calls for more bipartisanship Wednesday, saying that Brown "should look up in the mirror." Reid said, "I saw his plea for bipartisanship. That is a big joke. It's travesty. He's one of the most partisan people…I don't need any advice from him on bipartisanship." Reid also expressed confidence that the Democrats will be able to keep John Kerry's senate seat if Kerry leaves for a cabinet position, despite rumors that Brown might run for the seat. "We feel very comfortable if in fact that it does happen, we feel comfortable in Massachusetts. I already told you how I feel about Scott Brown," Reid said.
