Game Ends As Raul Mondesi Jr. Forgets To Touch Home Plate After Game-Tying Home Run

Game Ends As Raul Mondesi Jr. Forgets To Touch Home Plate After Game-Tying Home Run Yes, that Raul Mondesi, Jr. He's in the Brewers organization, at Rookie League Helena. Mondesi came to the plate in the bottom of the 10th with the Brewers down 2-0 to the Missoula Osprey, the Diamondbacks' affiliate. With one on and two out, he cranked the pitch over the left field wall for what should have been the game-tying home run.

But Osprey catcher Michael Perez noticed Mondesi clearly miss home plate, and more importantly, umpire noticed it too, setting the stage for the rare walk-off appeal. Helena's manager sounded nonplussed, but accepting. This is a teaching moment!

"Did he miss home plate? You tell me, because I don't know, I didn't see it," said Helena manager Jeff Isom, on his way back to the clubhouse, after a long discussion with the umpire.

"On any home run, the umpire has one job, and that's to watch the plate and make sure the runners touch it. He said he (Mondesi) missed it by eight inches. It's a terrible way to lose a ballgame, but the guys learned a good lesson. From now on, make sure you jump on the plate on a homer," he added.

The crowd reaction is obviously the best part of this video. Pure confusion is pierced by a few isolated angry voices, finally giving way to boos as the visitors celebrate on the mound. Such is life in the Pioneer League. You buys your ticket, and you takes your chances.
