Ohio State breezed past Oregon in the second half to win the inaugural national title in college football's playoff era Monday night at the home of the Dallas Cowboys. The Buckeyes beat the Ducks 42-20 with help from OSU running back Ezekiel Elliott, who rushed for 246 yards and four touchdowns on 36 carries. The win is the fifth national championship for the Buckeyes but the first title for Coach Urban Meyer in his three seasons at Ohio State. (Meyer has won two other titles with Florida, in 2006 and 2008.) Following the win, police used tear gas on Ohio State's campus to break up revelers celebrating at the football stadium. Authorities said 30 to 40 fires were lit in trash cans and dumpsters.
