At least eight journalists and Ebola aid workers in Guinea were killed by villagers who then dumped their bodies in a latrine. The murders are the first deadly example of an increasing distrust among the local population about Westerners. The individuals were "killed in cold blood by the villagers," a spokesman for the Guinean government said Thursday. Those attacked included administrators, medical officers, a preacher, and three journalists. They were attacked by a stone-throwing mob as they visited the village to do disinfection work and educate the local populace. Additional aid teams have been pushed out in other locations in the region.
