Cheat Sheet - Hillary Clinton, Check Your Privilege

Read This, Skip That ....

June 27, 2014
STEP BACK
The one thing Hillary Clinton's book tour has confirmed is that she and her family are now officially elites. It's ironic, writes Keli Goff, given that 20 years ago Bill ran for president as a scrappy Southerner. Now, they are stumbling with the same issue that tripped up George H.W. Bush: their inability to see outside their privileged bubble.
#SISTERS

And then there was one. Barbara Walters is gone from The View, and now so are co-hosts Jenny McCarthy and Sherri Shepherd. The hosts announced their departures on Thursday night, with Shepherd saying "it is time for me to move on," and McCarthy tweeting "If Sherri goes... I go too #sisters." According to TMZ, the pair were fired, along with executive producer Bill Geddie. In a statement, ABC said the show "will be moving in an exciting new direction next season and ABC has made decisions to evolve the show creatively." It appears Whoopi Goldberg is returning.

CONTAGION
Not content with tearing up Syria and Iraq, ISIS also has its eyes on Jordan, senior Obama administration officials told senators this week. An ISIS attack on Jordan would take the complexity of the Middle East to a whole other level, reports Eli Lake, as Amman would almost certainly try to enlist Israel and the U.S. If it did, that would put Israel on the same side as Iran.
GET HER OUT

The 27-year-old Sudanese woman who was sentenced to death for marrying a Christian is now seeking shelter in the U.S. Embassy in Khartoum. Meriam Ibrahim had been sentenced to hang for apostasy last month under a law forbidding Muslims to convert or marry Christian men. Under massive international pressure, Ibrahim was released from jail on Monday but was detained Tuesday trying to leave the country for the U.S., where her husband is a citizen. On Thursday, she was released from custody under the condition of staying in Sudan. The U.S. State Department says it has met with Sudanese foreign ministry to make clear Ibrahim be able "to depart as swiftly as possible from Sudan."

NOT SO HARD

The very same trade deal that former President Yanukovych turned down, sparking violent street battles and his ouster, has been signed by his successor. The deal sets up a free trade zone for Ukraine as well as for fellow signees Moldova and Georgia. In return the countries will commit to modeling themselves on EU democracies and improve their human rights issues. President Petro Poroshenko called it the second-most important moment in Ukraine's history after its independence from Russia. "The document we will sign today is not just political and economic, it is a symbol of faith and unbreakable will," he said.
