PIE IN THE SKY

The internet is buzzing over Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos's announcement that the online retailer is looking into using delivery drones. Could an unmanned aircraft really be dropping books at your doorstep within five years? Possibly—but Bezos glossed over the huge legal, technological, and ethical hurdles standing in the way, The Daily Beast's Abby Haglage reports.

UPHEVAL

Protesters in Ukraine overtook a government building on Monday as they called for the ouster of Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and his cabinet, one day after demonstrators took over President Viktor Yanukovych's office. Thousands have taken to the streets in Ukraine against Yanukovych's decision to abandon a deal for closer ties with the European Union. Three lawmakers of the ruling Party of Regions have quit Parliament in protest, but it appears the opposition party does not have enough votes to oust Azarov's party. Yanukovych has said the EU deal would cause Ukraine to break ties with Russia, but the deal still remains popular throughout the country and especially in the western part of the country.

CLASSLESS

Alabama went down in a stunning Iron Bowl defeat on Saturday. But instead of taking the blame, head coach Nick Saban threw his players under the bus. At a university that has few of the scandals that besiege its rivals, and with a graduation rate of 71 percent, it deserves a coach who'll stand behind them after a loss, writes Stuarts Stevens.

INVESTIGATION

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Monday that he believed speed would be the culprit behind the Metro-North train derailment in the Bronx that left four dead and more than 60 injured. "It was a tricky turn on the system, but it is a turn that has been there for decades," Cuomo said. An MTA official said the engineer told emergency workers that he "dumped the brakes" when he realized the curve was coming too quickly. A "black box" data recorder was recovered from the train, which could also help pinpoint the cause of the derailment. Meanwhile, workers began to remove the wreckage of the seven cars of the commuter train, which stopped just short of spilling into water.

BUCK STOPS HERE

Thanks a lot world. After the U.S. failed to get other nations to dismantle the most lethal of Syria's chemical weapons, it will now do so on its own vessel in international waters. The operation, which has never been done on its own ship by the U.S. before, will "neutralize Syria's priority chemicals." The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, which is overseeing the destruction, is still pushing for the less dangerous chemical weapons to be destroyed in other countries. So far, allowing the destruction of chemical weapons on any country's soil has proved politically unpalatable.
