Blurred Lines

It's the No. 1 song in the country. But some fans are unnerved by the creepy lyrics and NSFW video from the blue-eyed soul singer, Tricia Romano reports.

Q&A

Edward Snowden took to The Guardian to answer questions from the public. The Daily Beast rounds up the NSA leaker's best answers, from why he chose Hong Kong to why he's honored to be called a traitor by Dick Cheney.

Stay Tuned

The Supreme Court ruled that Arizona's voter-ID law, which required would-be voters to prove their citizenship, is illegal under federal law. Writing for the majority, Justice Scalia decided that Arizona's law was preempted by the federal National Voter Registration Act. The court also ruled that facts that increase mandatory minimum sentences must be proved to the jury, not just a judge. But the justices deferred several highly anticipated decisions, including ones on same-sex marriage, affirmative action, and the Voting Rights Act. They'll announce more decisions this Thursday.

WHISTLEBLOWERS

Three former NSA officials who tried to bring the immense data-collecting activities of their agency to light say Edward Snowden did the right thing by making the operation public. In a round-table interview with USA Today, Thomas Drake, William Binney, and J. Kirk Wiebe praised Snowden for exposing information in the public's interest. The trio pushed back on the idea that his actions caused grave harm to the country, saying people including terrorists know the government is monitoring their telecommunications.

OH, CANADA!

It appears the city of Montreal can't catch a break. Interim Mayor Michael Applebaum was arrested Monday morning and charged with 14 counts of fraud, breach of trust, and conspiracy. Applebaum, who has denied any wrongdoing, became mayor in November after his predecessor, Gérald Tremblay, resigned in the wake of a massive corruption scandal. Applebaum was allegedly involved in shady real estate deals from 2006 and 2011, but investigators did not give more details about the case. "These allegations rest essentially on obtaining permission and political support on two real estate projects," said Capt. André Boulanger of the Sûreté du Québec, the province's police force.
