On Tuesday, the Internet delighted in a GQ article penned by Daily Beast contributor Buzz Bissinger in which he confessed his shopping addiction—a Gucci-filled closet exploding with leather worth over $600,000. On Thursday, Bissinger entered shopping rehab. But is shopping addiction even a real disease? The Daily Beast's Isabel Wilkinson reports.

Haunting Details

It only took five minutes for Adam Lanza to kill 26 children and teachers at Sandy Hook Elementary School, before turning the gun on himself and taking his own life. Search warrants issued after the massacre released Thursday offer grisly details of the event as well as further information about Lanza's gun-obsessed personal life. Massive amounts of ammunition in a gun safe, swords, and a bulletproof vest were found in Lanza's home—in what is believed to be his bedroom. A loaded shotgun was found in the passenger compartment of the car Lanza drove to the school. The documents also reveal that Lanza was wearing bulletproof and military-style clothes when he was found dead.

Call to Action

Pushing his gun-control package today, Obama asked all Americans to find out where their representatives stand on the issue. Well, we've got you covered. The Daily Beast created a tool that classifies every member of Congress according to their stance on gun control according to statements, voting records, ratings from the NRA and the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, and contributions from the gun lobby. Wall Street Rising

It could be a record day for the S&P 500. The stock index hovered around—and even climbed above—the closing high it set in 2007. Around midmorning, the S&P 500 broke past the record close of 1565. If the index closes above there, it, like the Dow industrials, will have recouped its financial-crisis losses. The S&P has been flirting with the record for two weeks, but surged past it for the first time Thursday.

END OF AN ERA?

Is Barbara Walters finally ready for a new view? The 83-year-old television host is poised to announce her retirement, according to multiple new reports. Deadline Hollywood, which broke the news, suggested that the View doyenne would leave in May. Then The New York Times's Brian Stelter tweeted that it will be May of next year, a report echoed by The Huffington Post's Jack Mirkinson. Whenever she does retire, Walters willl no doubt get a big sendoff worthy of her 52 years on broadcast television. A trailblazing female TV journalist, Walters was the first co-host of a news show when she debuted on Today in 1974, and later the first co-anchor of a network evening news show when she was on ABC's Evening News in 1976.
