EXCLUSIVE

Long before her suicide, Bobby Jr.’s wife was unraveling. In Newsweek, bestselling Kennedy historian Laurence Leamer reveals what the housekeeper saw, stunning details from Bobby’s sealed divorce affidavit, in which Bobby alleges that Mary physically abused him, and more.

MR. FIX-IT

Republican leaders had their sights trained on the Obama administration Sunday as the White House went into crisis mode over a series of media leaks. Recent press reports including stories in Newsweek and The New York Times detailed the administration’s drone-warfare program, among other elements of Obama’s national-security strategy. “Our intelligence people say this is the worst breach they’ve ever seen,” Sen. John McCain said on CNN on Sunday. “It’s very clear that this information had to come from this administration. It couldn’t have come from anywhere else.” While Attorney General Eric Holder has appointed two federal prosecutors to look into the leaks, McCain called for a “special counsel” independent of the Department of Justice to be given the task.

BAILOUT

Stock markets are up on the news of a $125 billion agreement to bail out Spain, but the financial commentators aren’t convinced—and are still gearing up for economic Armageddon. They’re wrong to panic, says Zachary Karabell.

HACKING

Gordon Brown, the former British prime minister, took the stand at the Leveson Inquiry Monday morning, the first in a series of high-profile witnesses to appear this week in the ongoing phone-hacking hearing. In testimony that denied Rupert Murdoch's views influenced him while he was in 10 Downing Street, Brown took aim at the conflation of fact and opinion that characterizes many Fleet Street red tops, saying, "That's where the press has failed our country." Brown also testified on a Sun story that revealed details of his son's cystic fibrosis. The former head of government said that if he'd supported Murdoch's positions while in office, England would be "the 51st state of the US." Prime Minister David Cameron is scheduled to appear Thursday before the inquiry. Meanwhile, Murdoch tabloid The Sun ran a story Monday reporting that Cameron briefly forgot his eight-year-old daughter at a pub after a family lunch on Sunday.

CAR ACCIDENT

And they say traffic in Washington is bad. Two car collisions that landed Commerce Secretary John Bryson in a Los Angeles hospital are under police investigation Monday, law-enforcement officials said. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said one of the two traffic accidents was caused by the 68-year-old Bryson. “The preliminary investigation indicates the collision was caused by suspect John Bryson,” police officials said in a statement. The commerce secretary reportedly crashed his Lexus into a stationary vehicle carrying three males Sunday, then allegedly struck a second car only minutes later, this one carrying two passengers. Responders found Bryson unconscious in his car before transporting him to a hospital.
