CHEAT SHEET
MUST READS FROM ALL OVER

DISASTER ZONE
1. Japan Fears Full Nuclear Meltdown

A second explosion at Japan's Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant injured
11 workers Monday, and officials are already bracing for a third blast:
After explosions at Unit 1 and Unit 3, the plant has lost the ability to
cool the reactor at Unit Two, which they will have to inject with
seawater, possibly leading to a new explosion. The U.S. has shifted an
aircraft carrier away from Japan after higher-than-usual radiation
levels were detected on board. The New York Times says that the plant
could continue leaking radioactive steam for months as crews fight to
avert full meltdowns by flooding the reactors and then releasing steam.
One senior U.S. official says, "under the best scenarios, this isn't
going to end anytime soon." The White House also issued a statement
saying, "Hawaii, Alaska, the U.S. Territories and the U.S. West Coast
are not expected to experience any harmful levels of radioactivity." The
Daily Beast's Lennox Samuels reports on Japan's fears of a meltdown,
plus read the most gripping survivor stories.

DEATH TOLL
2. 5,000 Dead or Missing After Quake

Three days after Japan's 9.0 magnitude earthquake and tsunami, more than
5,000 people are dead or missing - and The New York Times says, police
officials are "certain" that more than 10,000 people have died. On
Monday, 2,000 bodies washed up on two separate beaches in Miyagi. The
number of actual missing is also much higher than the official number:
In the town of Minamisanriku, for example, the local government has been
unable to contact 10,000 people, which is half the local population.

LIBYA
3. Gaddafi's Troops Near Rebel Stronghold

The Japanese earthquake couldn't have occurred at a worse time for
Libyan rebels: The world's attention has turned elsewhere as Muammar
Gaddafi tightens his grip on the country he once seemed sure to lose.
Libyan state television reported Sunday that Gaddafi's forces have
regained control of the eastern town of Brega, one of the earliest
cities to fall to rebel control, and military leaders pledged to retake
the rebel capital of Benghazi. France has renewed calls for a no-fly
zone, if it's not already too late to make a difference. Anne-Marie
Slaughter, meanwhile, debunks five arguments made against a no-fly zone.

4. Hackers Dump Bank of America Docs

Hackers from Anonymous posted documents they claim reveal fraud at Bank
of America - though they're a little difficult to get your head around.
The emails from an employee at Balboa Insurance, which used to be owned
by Bank of America, appear to show Balboa employees intentionally
removing tracking info from loan documents. (Remember that much of the
controversy over foreclosures has to do with improper documentation.)
Anonymous has posted the documents at BankofAmericaSucks.com. It is
unclear if the documents are connected to the rumored Bank of America
documents that WikiLeaks is sitting on.

MIDDLE EAST
5. Israel to Boost Settlement Construction

The Israeli government approved plans Sunday to build hundreds of new
homes in the West Bank after a Jewish couple and their three children
were found stabbed to death in a Jewish settlement. In response, Israeli
leaders approved "measured construction" of 500 new homes. "They murder
and we build, and we will build our country," Israeli Prime Minister
Benjamin Netanyahu told relatives of the victims. Sunday's decision was
the first approval of new building plans since a moratorium expired in
September.
